The story

Pierre Gasly, from Rouen in France, won the 2016 GP2 Series with Prema before graduating to Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in 2017. A mid-2019 promotion to Red Bull Racing proved a difficult fit, and he was returned to the junior team before the year was out.

That setback set up the defining day of his career: a maiden Grand Prix victory at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, one of the sport’s great underdog wins, followed by a podium at Brazil 2021. He joined Alpine in 2023 to lead the French manufacturer’s effort.

In 2026 Gasly is Alpine’s senior driver, taking a strong podium at Monaco — the team’s first as a Mercedes-powered customer — alongside compatriot Franco Colapinto.
